# Notion Pricing in 2026: Plus vs Business, Notion AI, and the API Limit That Slows Integrations

**By Justin McKelvey** · Published October 10, 2026 · Updated October 10, 2026 · 8 min read

> As of October 10, 2026, Notion costs $0 on Free, $10 per member a month on Plus and $20 on Business, billed yearly, with custom Enterprise pricing and free guests. Notion AI is fully included only from Business up. For integrations, Business also raises the API limit from 180 to 600 requests a minute per connection, which turns an hour-long nightly sync into about 17 minutes.

## How much does Notion cost? The short answer

**As of October 10, 2026, Notion costs $0 on Free, $10 per member a month on Plus and $20 per member a month on Business, billed yearly, with custom Enterprise pricing. Guests are free. Notion AI (the Notion Agent, AI meeting notes and enterprise search) is only fully included from Business up; Free and Plus get a limited trial. For anyone connecting Notion to other software, Business also triples the API speed: 600 requests a minute per connection instead of 180.**

Prices and plan features below come from Notion's pricing page, and the API limits from Notion's developer documentation, both read October 10, 2026. Notion's pricing page defaults to yearly billing and says yearly saves up to 20%; the monthly price appears when you switch the toggle, and we did not record it, so every dollar figure here is the yearly rate.

## Notion's plans in one table

| | Free | Plus | Business | Enterprise |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Price per member, billed yearly | $0 | $10 | $20 | Custom |
| Blocks | Unlimited for one person, limited for 2+ members | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| File uploads | 5 MB per file | Unlimited (about 5 GB per file) | Same | Same |
| Page history | 7 days | 30 days | 90 days | Unlimited |
| External guests | 10 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Database automations | Buttons only | Custom database automations | Same as Plus | Same as Plus |
| Notion AI | Trial | Trial | Included | Included, zero data retention with AI providers |
| API rate per connection | 180 a minute | 180 a minute | 600 a minute | 600 a minute |
| Single sign-on | No | No | SAML SSO | SAML SSO plus SCIM provisioning |

Business also adds private teamspaces, granular database permissions (people see only the rows assigned to them), verified pages, forms with conditional logic and premium connections such as GitHub and Asana. A custom domain for a Notion Site is extra on every plan: $8 a month per domain paid annually or $10 paid monthly.

## What the extra $10 on Business actually buys

Most reviews frame Plus vs Business as "do you want AI?". For a team that automates, there are three separate reasons to pay double, and the AI is only one of them:

1. **Notion AI without a trial cap.** The Notion Agent (chat, generate, autofill, translate), AI meeting notes and enterprise search across connected apps such as Slack, Microsoft Teams and GitHub.
2. **3.3x the API throughput.** Notion's developer docs give Business and Enterprise 600 requests per minute per connection, an average of 10 a second, and every other plan 180, an average of 3 a second. This is not on the pricing page.
3. **Row-level permissions.** Granular database permissions let a client, contractor or field tech see only their own rows, which is often what makes a Notion database usable as a light client portal.

## The API speed limit nobody prints on a pricing page

Every integration, sync and AI agent that talks to Notion goes through the public API, and Notion meters it two ways: a per-connection budget per 60-second window (the 180 or 600 above), and a separate per-workspace limit shared by all of your connections, which Notion does not publish as a number. Go over either and Notion returns an HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header; for the per-connection limit that wait is at most 60 seconds, for the workspace limit it can be longer.

Here is what that means on a realistic workload. An 8-person marketing agency keeps projects, clients and leads in Notion databases, with two connections: a website form handler that creates a lead page, appends the message, checks for a duplicate and sets a status (4 requests per lead), and a nightly sync that reads and updates 5,000 project pages (2 requests each, 10,000 requests).

| Workload | Plus, 8 members ($80 a month) | Business, 8 members ($160 a month) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Nightly sync, 10,000 requests | About 56 minutes at 180 a minute | About 17 minutes at 600 a minute |
| Form burst: 50 leads in one minute after an email blast (200 requests) | Over the 180 budget; the last 5 leads wait up to 60 seconds | Fits, using a third of the budget |
| AI summary of each lead in Notion | Trial only, or an outside AI tool through the API | Included through Notion AI |

The takeaway: on Plus, nothing breaks, it just queues, and a well-built integration retries after the Retry-After wait. The cost shows up when an AI agent or a real-time form needs an answer now. If two or three tools will read and write the same workspace all day, Business is the plan that keeps them out of each other's way, and the $80 a month for this team is mostly an API and AI line item.

## Notion automations and Custom Agents

Notion's own automations are simple and cheap to use. Free gets buttons only. Plus and above get custom database automations that create pages and blocks, and set status, assignee and other properties when something changes. Anything beyond that, such as calling an AI model, writing to accounting software or reacting to a phone call, runs outside Notion through the API, webhooks or an automation platform.

Custom Agents are Notion's newer route for autonomous work: agents that handle repetitive tasks on their own. Notion's pricing page says they are free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits, and its plan table marks them as requiring Notion credits. Notion does not publish how many credits an agent run uses, so price a pilot before you plan a budget around them. Workers, a beta developer platform for running custom code on Notion, also draws on credits.

## How Notion bills seats

- **You pay per member; guests are free.** Guests can only reach the pages they are invited to and do not see your teamspaces.
- **Adding a member mid-cycle is prorated.** It is charged on your monthly billing date, even on a yearly plan.
- **Removing a member does not refund the seat.** You keep the paid seat for someone else until the next renewal, when the seat count resets to the members actually in the workspace.
- **Accidental adds can be refunded** if you remove the members and contact Notion within three days of the invoice.

## Notion or Airtable as the database behind an automation?

Owners shortlist both for the same job. Notion is the better home for documents, wikis and projects that also hold structured data; its limits for automation are the API rate and the shared workspace limit, and paid plans have unlimited blocks. Airtable is built as a database first and meters automation by monthly volume instead, with caps on records, automation runs and API calls per workspace. Our [Airtable pricing](/blog/airtable-pricing) breakdown runs a 12-person team through those meters. Both usually sit in the middle of a stack rather than at the end of it, which is why we price the connections along with the seats when we compare [business process automation software](/blog/business-process-automation-software).

## Who can build Notion automations and AI agents for my business?

Start with Notion's own buttons and database automations; they are included and they cover a lot. Bring in a builder when Notion has to talk to the rest of the business: leads arriving from a website or a phone line, an AI agent that drafts replies or updates records, or data that must land in your CRM or accounting system. SuperDupr builds that layer, including retries and queuing around Notion's rate limits; we do not resell Notion seats. An AI agent working against a Notion workspace falls under our [AI agent development](/solutions/ai-agent-development) service, published from $5,000 to $50,000+ depending on the agent, live in 2 to 4 weeks for most AI systems, with $200 to $2,000 a month in ongoing support depending on volume. The first step is a free 30-minute strategy session. To compare that with other builders, see our breakdowns of [AI automation pricing](/blog/ai-automation-pricing) and the [best AI automation agencies](/blog/best-ai-automation-agencies).

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How much does Notion cost per month?

As of October 10, 2026, Notion's Free plan is $0, Plus is $10 per member a month and Business is $20 per member a month, billed yearly. Enterprise is priced by Notion's sales team. Notion says yearly billing saves up to 20% compared with paying monthly. Guests are free on every plan.

### Is Notion AI included in the Plus plan?

No. Free and Plus get a limited trial of Notion AI. The Notion Agent, AI meeting notes and enterprise search across connected apps are included from the Business plan up, and Enterprise adds zero data retention with Notion's AI providers.

### What is the Notion API rate limit?

Notion's developer docs give each connection 600 requests per minute on Business and Enterprise and 180 per minute on all other plans, with a separate limit shared by all connections in the workspace. Requests over the limit get an HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header; for the per-connection limit the wait is at most 60 seconds.

### Does Notion have automations on the free plan?

Only buttons. Custom database automations, which create pages and set properties such as status and assignee when something changes, start on Plus. Business and Enterprise have the same automations as Plus.

### How much do Notion Custom Agents cost?

Notion's pricing page says Custom Agents are free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits. Notion does not publish how many credits a single agent run uses, so run a pilot before budgeting.

### Is Notion cheaper than Airtable?

Per seat on yearly billing, Notion Plus at $10 a member is half of Airtable Team at $20 a seat, and Notion Business at $20 matches it. The bigger difference is how they meter automation: Notion limits API speed per minute, while Airtable caps records, automation runs and API calls per month.
