OpenPhone Pricing 2026 (Now Quo): Plans, Is It Free, and What the Sona AI Agent Costs per Call

As of October 25, 2026, OpenPhone, now sold as Quo, costs $19, $33 or $47 per user a month ($15, $23 or $35 billed annually), with no free plan, only a 7-day trial. Its Sona AI agent is priced per call: 10 included, then $25 for 40 calls up to $199 for 600. A 4-person HVAC office with Sona answering 300 calls pays about $264 a month, about 42 cents per AI call.

How much does OpenPhone (now Quo) cost? The short answer

As of October 25, 2026, OpenPhone, which now sells as Quo, costs $19 per user a month on Starter, $33 on Business and $47 on Scale billed monthly, or $15, $23 and $35 billed annually. Each user gets one number, and US and Canada calling and texting is unlimited under a fair use policy. It is not free: there is a 7-day trial. The built-in AI agent, Sona, is priced per call: 10 calls a month are included, then credit packs from $25 for 40 calls to $199 for 600, with overage from $1.00 down to $0.45 a call.

Every number on this page comes from Quo's own pricing page, read October 25, 2026, where the plans, Sona credit tiers, texting registration fees and add-ons are all printed in US dollars.

OpenPhone plans and what each one unlocks

PlanMonthly billingAnnual billingWhat it adds
Starter$19 per user$15 per user ($180 a year)One local or toll-free number per user, unlimited US and Canada calling and texting, voicemail transcripts, the Quo API, the Sona AI agent, a ChatGPT and Claude connector (MCP), manual call recording, a shared number for up to 10 paid users
Business$33 per user$23 per user ($276 a year)AI call summaries and transcripts, call transfers, phone menus, group calling, ring orders, automatic call recording, HubSpot and Salesforce integrations, analytics, live chat support
Scale$47 per user$35 per user ($420 a year)AI call tags, dedicated onboarding, priority and inbound phone support

The line that catches small teams: call transfers and phone menus start on Business. If an AI agent or a receptionist needs to put a caller through to a tech, Starter will not do it, and the whole team moves up, because the plan is per user.

Is OpenPhone free?

No. Quo has no free plan. Its pricing page offers a 7-day free trial ("cancel anytime, we'll even remind you"). After that, the cheapest way in is Starter at $15 per user a month on annual billing. The Sona AI agent's first 1,000 credits (10 calls) a month come with every plan, so you can test it on real calls inside the paid plan, but 10 calls is a test, not a receptionist.

What Sona, Quo's AI agent, costs per call

Sona answers calls for you and is billed in credits: Quo states 1 call is 100 credits. The packs are per month.

Sona tierMonthly priceCalls includedCost per included callOverage per call
Tier 1$010$0$1.00
Tier 2$2540$0.63$0.75
Tier 3$49100$0.49$0.65
Tier 4$99250$0.40$0.55
Tier 5$199600$0.33$0.45

Per call, not per minute, is the important part. A 6-minute call costs the same as a 40-second one. That makes Sona predictable for long intake calls and expensive for short ones like "are you open Saturday?".

A worked bill: a 4-person HVAC office with the AI answering overflow

Quo's page lists prices, not bills, so here is one. A heating and cooling company has an owner, two office staff and a dispatcher on Quo. They want Sona to pick up overflow and after-hours calls, about 300 a month, transfers to the on-call tech, and an automated "we're on the way" text from their job software through Zapier, about 400 a month.

LineMathMonthly cost
Business plan (transfers need it)4 users x $33 monthly, or x $23 annual$132, or $92
Sona, 300 callsTier 4: $99 for 250 + 50 x $0.55$126.50
Automated texts through Zapier400 x $0.01 add-on$4
Texting registration$1.50 to $3 a month (plus $19.50 once)$1.50 to $3
Totalabout $264 monthly billing, about $224 on annual seats

Two things to notice. First, Tier 4 plus overage beats Tier 3 by a wide margin here: Tier 3 would be $49 + 200 x $0.65 = $179 for the same calls. Size the tier to your real call count, not your hopes. Second, the AI line is now as big as the seats. At $126.50 for 300 calls, Sona costs about 42 cents a call.

For comparison, a custom voice agent on a platform like Vapi or Retell bills per minute: the 1,200-minute month in our voice AI pricing comparison costs about $111 to $184, or 9 to 15 cents a minute. At 3 minutes a call that is about 28 to 46 cents, so the two land close. Sona wins on long calls and on setup, since there is nothing to build. A custom agent wins when it has to do work Sona's listed features do not, such as booking straight into your scheduling software with your own rules. Our guide to how much an AI receptionist costs lays out every option from answering services to custom agents.

How OpenPhone connects to automations and AI

  • Quo API and webhooks. The API is on every plan. Webhooks are listed in the integrations grid, so a missed call or new text can start a workflow in your own system.
  • Zapier and Make. Listed integrations. Sending texts automatically from them (or from the API) is an add-on at $0.01 per outgoing text, on top of the unlimited texting your team sends by hand.
  • Native integrations. The grid lists HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive, Attio, Clio, Jobber, Housecall Pro, JobTread, HighLevel, Gong, Slack and Google Contacts. Quo's plan cards name HubSpot and Salesforce as Business features.
  • The ChatGPT and Claude connector (MCP). New on every plan, so an AI assistant can read and act on your calls and messages.

The fair use asterisk matters for automations. "Unlimited" texting covers people texting customers. A system sending hundreds of automated texts runs on the $0.01 add-on and still needs 10DLC registration, which Quo passes through at $19.50 once and $1.50 to $3 a month.

What the OpenPhone price page leaves out

  • Extra numbers. One number per user is included; a second line for a new location or a tracking number is $5 a month.
  • International. Only US and Canada are included. Other countries are billed per minute or message in credits.
  • Per-seat math as you grow. Adding a tech who only needs to see the shared inbox still costs a full seat at your plan's rate.
  • Sona's limits. The pricing page prices calls, not capabilities. Test the 10 included calls on your hardest real scenarios before buying a pack.

Is OpenPhone worth it for a small business?

For a small team that needs a real business number on their cell phones, shared texting and call recording, yes: $15 to $23 a user a month on annual billing is less than most desk-phone systems, and porting your number in is listed. If calls go to more than one person, budget Business, not Starter.

The cheapest useful automation on it is a missed-call text-back. SuperDupr's $29 Missed-Call Recovery Kit, which is our own product, includes an OpenPhone setup path, and our missed-call text-back guide shows the math on what it recovers. If you would rather build on a carrier directly and pay per minute, our Twilio alternatives comparison prices the same kind of call volume on six carriers.

Who can build an AI phone workflow on OpenPhone for my business?

You can set up Sona yourself in an afternoon. The work that takes longer is what happens after the call: creating the job, texting the customer, alerting the right tech and logging it all in your CRM. SuperDupr, the AI ops shop Justin McKelvey runs, builds that, either around Quo or as a custom AI voice agent on your own phone line. Our published price for a voice agent build is $5,000 to $10,000, with $200 to $2,000 a month ongoing depending on volume, and most AI builds go live in 2 to 4 weeks.
